Following a welcome cocktail and bites, the format for the event was a moderated round table that was informative, insightful and designed to encourage discussion amongst all the attendees.
Moderated by Janie Soublière, our WISLaw regional coordinator, three outstanding speakers provided their personal and professional experience and insight on the topic which was “the prevention of harassment and abuse in sport in Canada”.
Notably, Anna Prchal. Former Member Canadian Alpine Ski Team, personified how the need for better regulation of this issue has arisen by offering her personal perspective as a former victim, Lorraine Lafrenière, CEO Coaching Association of Canada, explained what is currently being done on a legislative level to better regulate Canada’s current sport system and what is anticipated in the coming months with regards to the establishment of a duty of care, and finally Marie Clause Asselin, CEO Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) discussed what legislative and administrative processes are being put in place to provide third party investigations into all athlete’s harassment and abuse complaints to ensure that justice is served
The 32 participants, men and women, present asked various throughout that rendered the interactive event a tremendous success.
