On 12 October 2018, at the occasion of the V General Assembly and Sports Law Conference of the Italian Sports Lawyers Association (AIAS), which was held at the prestigious Nautical Club Posillipo in Naples (Italy) under the patronage of the National Olympic Committee (CONI), the Journal of Sports Law and Economics (RDES) and the Sports Law and Policy Center Srl (SLPC), Melanie Schärer presented the objectives and activities of the Women In Sports Law Association (WISLaw).
In the packed conference room, three round tables were organized on recent jurisprudence and new national and international sports law regulations.
In this respect, WISLaw member Stella Riberti spoke about the potential consequences of the revised FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, which came into force on 1 June 2018.
Furthermore, WISLaw member Ida Lina Reitano explained the national decree law no. 115 that was introduced on 5 October 2018 and that had overturned the cardinal principles of the reserve of sporting justice (based on the specificity of sport!) as a result of the Serie B 2018/2019 championship that had kicked off with an odd number of participating teams (19), without a relative change in the criteria regarding relegation and promotion, what had led to a number of disputes, including in the administrative area, which was followed by a governmental intervention with the aforementioned decree.
The conference was followed by a Gala dinner at the most beautiful seaside, where sports law talks continued among the participants.
Thank you AIAS president Salvatore Civale and scientific doctor of the SLPC study center Michele Colucci for the invitation and for confirming the importance of having more women involved in the sports law sector.
